14160 FLURIDONE ( SEPRO ) CARROT ( 01AB = ROOT VEGETABLES SUBGROUPS ) UNDER EVALUATION

Reduced Risk Status:
IPM Compatibility: Per Requester: Very Good Fit; Fluridone would fit well in carrot IPM because it would add another preemergence herbicide option with activity on pigweed species and a different mode of action from many current carrot herbicides. It could be integrated with existing practices while helping manage resistant pigweed populations and reduce reliance on PSII inhibitors:06/26;
Reasons for need: Pigweed species and other annual broadleaf weeds. Primary: redroot pigweed. Carrot growers have very limited herbicide options for pigweed control. Current programs rely mainly on pendimethalin and S-metolachlor preemergence, followed by linuron and other PSII inhibitors postemergence. However, resistance to PSII inhibitors is already widespread in pigweed species in the region. Resistance to Group 3 and Group 15 herbicides has not been confirmed locally yet, but cases have been reported in the US, so additional modes of action are needed to protect these tools. Current technologies used: Growers currently rely mainly on pendimethalin and S-metolachlor preemergence, followed by linuron and other PSII inhibitors postemergence. These options are limited, and pigweed control can be inadequate when resistance is present or when residual activity breaks down:06/26;
Requesting State(s): MI:Miranda, J* ;
PCR Use Pattern: Use Brake On! as a pre-emergence soil application once AT 21-43 fl oz/A (the original request is for 21-42 fl oz/A but label max is 43 fl oz/A)
