| Reasons for need: |
Itchgrass [Rottboellia cochinchinensis (Lour.) W.D. Clayton]. Currently, the sugarcane industry is limited to paraquat for non-selective weed control utilizing postemergence-directed applications. With concerns about the future of paraquat’s registration status, other herbicide options are needed. Tiafenacil may also provide benefits in controlling other troublesome weeds such as johnsongrass [Sorghum halepense (L.) Pers.], ragweed parthenium (Parthenium hysterophorus L.), and morningglory (Ipomoea spp.). Current technologies being used: Tillage, preemergence (pendimethalin, trifluralin, clomazone), postemergence (asulam, trifloxysulfuron-sodium), and postemergence-directed (paraquat) herbicides:06/26;
