13722 DIMETHENAMID-P ( BASF ) LEEK ( 03-07B = ONION, GREEN SUBGROUP ) MFG OBJECTIVE

Reduced Risk Status:
IPM Compatibility: Per Requester: Good Fit; This will fit well into an IPM program as it will allow an another mode of action to be used for weed control in leeks which helps to reduce resistance especially in problem weeds such as yellow nutsedge. It also will help to greatly reduce the amount of hand labor needed to clean weeds out of leeks and reduced the amount of cultivation needed:08/23; VERY GOOD FIT: SAME: WSR; GOOD FIT: SEE PREV COMMENT.: SOR
Reasons for need: Yellow nutsedge and annual broadleaf weeds, Currently the only effective herbicide for leeks is Dacthal which is applied as a preemergent at transplanting. There are no effective post emergent herbicides that are registered for use on leeks. Dacthal is being withdrawn by the EPA and it will no longer be manufactured. Without Dacthal, there are no other effective herbicides for weed control. Nutsedge is also a troublesome weed in leek production:08/23; TX/We are a large producer of leeks. They are a crucial commodity in the overall success of our business. We grow in Texas and New Jersey and we face heavy pest and disease issues with limited tools. This would be an important option to help remain competitive with Mexico:08/23
Requesting State(s): CA:Van Vliet, C*, Ratto, Ron, ; DC:Adcock, R ; TX:Erickson, B, Galeazzi, D ;
