GOOD FIT PER REQUESTOR; CHLORFENAPYR IS AN EFFECTIVE INSECTICIDE FOR CONTROL OF LEPIDOPTEROUS LARVAE INCLUDING DIAMONDBACK MOTH. DBM RESISTANCE TO DIAMIDES IS CURRENTLY WIDESPREAD THROUGHOUT THE WESTERN U.S. WHERE ABOUT 85% OF CAULIFLOWER IS PRODUCED VIA TRANSPLANTS GROWN IN DESERT AND COASTAL CA NURSERIES. ACCORDINGLY, RESISTANT DBM POPULATIONS ARE QUICKLY SPREADING THROUGHOUT THE WESTERN STATES BECAUSE DBM ARE DIFFICULT TO CONTROL IN NURSERIES DUE TO RESISTANCE TO OLDER A.I. (PYRETHROIDS, METHOMYL) AND LACK OF IRM ALTERNATIVES (OTHER THAN BT). HAVING AN ADDITIONAL A.I. SUCH AS CHLORFENAPYR WOULD ALLOW NURSERIES TO EFFECTIVELY CONTROL SUSCEPTIBLE AND RESISTANT DBM POPULATIONS BEFORE THEY REACH FIELDS. THIS SHOULD ALSO DISCOURAGE THE ILLEGAL USE OF UNREGISTERED A.I. (SPINOSYNS, DIAMIDES, ETC.) IN NURSERIES AND PRESERVE THEIR USAGE IN THE FIELD.:01/21

Reasons for need: |
DIAMONDBACK MOTH (DBM)-LACK OF EFFECTIVE ALTERNATIVES REGISTERED FOR USE FOR DBM CONTROL IN TRANSPLANT NURSERIES.; DBM RESISTANCE TO DIAMIDES IS SPREADING THROUGHOUT THE WESTERN U.S. VIA TRANSPLANTED BRASSICA CROPS. HOWEVER, TRANSPLANT NURSERIES HAVE FEW EFFECTIVE ALTERNATIVES FOR DBM CONTROL. USING CHLORFENAPYR IN THE NURSERY PRIOR TO TRANSPLANTING IN THE FIELD COULD 1) PROVIDE AN EFFECTIVE ALTERNATIVE FOR REDUCING DBM DENSITIES ON FIELD-READY TRANSPLANTS, 2) REDUCE SELECTION PRESSURE ON BTS AND PYRETHROIDS COMMONLY USED IN NURSERIES, 3) DISCOURAGE THE ILLEGAL USE OF UNREGISTERED A.I.S IN NURSERIES (SPINOSYNS, DIAMIDES) AND 4) MINIMIZE INTER-AND INTRASTATE MOVEMENT OF DIAMIDE RESISTANT DBM.
