12084 A TRICLOPYR ( ADAMA,CORTEVA,HELENA ) SUGARCANE ( 99 = MISC GROUP ) TOLERANCE ESTABLISHED

Reduced Risk Status:
IPM Compatibility: PER REQUESOR: VERY GOOD IPM FIT; GROUND APPLIC OF TRICLOPYR CAN BE TIMED TO CONTROL MERRILL'S NIGHTSHADE WHEN YOUNG SUGARCANE IS ESTABLISHING A STAND WITH LESS WEED COMPETITION; WITH ONLY 1 APPLIC PER YEAR, TRICLOPYR WILL NEED TO BE TIMED APPROPRIATELY AND SHOULD BE A GOOD FIT FOR EXISTING WEED CONTROL PROGRAMS; NO RESIDUES OF THE AI ARE EXPECTED TO BE PRESENT IN THE END SUCROSE (OR RESIDUAL MOLASSES USED FOR ANIMAL FEED), AS NO PART OF THE SUGACANE PLANT IS DIRECTLY CONSUMED:10/16
Reasons for need: MERRILL'S NIGHTSHADE (MNS); THIS NEW INVASIVE WEED HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED IN SUGARCANE ACROSS LA IN THE LAST 5 YEARS, AND CURRENT HERBICIDE REGIMES ARE NOT EFFECTIVE IN CONTROLLING IT, RESULTING IN DOCUMENTED YIELD LOSSES; IT IS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL WITH PREEMERGENCE HERBICIDES BECAUSE IT GERMINATES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR; PER ME-TOO REQUESTOR (STATE SUGARCANE SPECIALIST IN LA), MERRILL'S NIGHTSHADE CAN ONLY BE CONTROLLED BY TRICLOPYR, AND EXPEDITING A SECTION 3 REGISTRATION IS IMPORTANT; PER ME-TOO REQUESTOR (IND. AG CONSULTANT IN LA), THE NEED FOR TRICLOPYR HAS BECOME MORE NECESSARY DUE TO POPULATION SHIFTS IN WEED SPECIES DUE TO CURRENT HERBICIDES USED; MNS IS LIMITING HARVEST EFFICIENCY, REDUCING YIELDS, REQUIRING MORE MANUAL LABOR TO CONTROL IT; PER UNITED STATES SUGAR CORP ME-TOO, UNITED SUGAR SUPPORTS THIS USE, AS MNS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO HAVE A MAJOR NEGATIVE IMPACT FOR CANE PRODUCERS; PER ME-TOO REQUEST FROM RIO FARMS, INC., REPRESENTING RESEARCH FOR THE TX CANE INDUSTRY, THEY ARE SEEING MNS IN TX COMMERCIAL CANE FIELDS, AND USE OF THE TRYCERA PRODUCT COULD BE USEFUL IN TX; PER USDA IN LA ME-TOO REQUEST, WHEN TRICLOPYR IS TANK-MIXED WITH AN HPPD-INHIBITING HERBICIDE, THERE IS INCREASED POST EMERGENCE CONTROL OF BERMUDAGRASS, FOR WHICH NO OTHER POST EMERGENCE HERBICIDE OPTIONS ARE LABELED; FROM 07/18 LA ME-TOO REQUEST, LEFT UNCHECKED, MNS HAS POTENTIAL SERIOUS NEGATIVE IMPACT TO LANDOWNERS, PRODUCERS AND SUGARCANE MILLS THROUGH YIELD REDUCTION AND INCREASED PRODUCTION COST
Requesting State(s): FL:LaBorde, C ; LA:Spaunhorst, D, Waguespack Jr, H, Gravois, K, ; LA:Biator, B, Matingly, C, Sistrunk, K ; TX:Klostermann, M ;
PCR Use Pattern: USE THE TRYCERA PRODUCT; MAKE TWO (NOT ONE, PER 10/18/16 EMAIL FROM REQUESTOR) FOLIAR APPLIC OF 0.7-2.1 QT/A (0.5-1.5 LB AE/A), USING ONLY GROUND RIG APPLIC; MAKE ONE APPLIC FOLLOWING HARVEST WHEN NIGHTSHADE GROWTH IS AT LEAST 4 INCHES AND LESS THAN 24 INCHES, IN A MINIMUM 15 GPA; ADDITION OF A NONIONIC SURFACTANT SUCH AS DYNE-AMIC AT 0.25% V/V OR CROP OIL CONCENTRATE SUCH AS AGRI-DEX AT 1% V/V IS RECOMMENDED; MAKE A SPRING APPLIC, IF NEEDED, TO PROVIDE CONTROL FOR NEWLY EMERGED CROP
EPA Default Residue Trials: 3-3 4-3 6 13
IR-4 Residue Trial Plan: 3-3 4-3 6 13; 1 DECLINE; 1 PROCESSING
Residue Protocol Use Pattern: USE THE TRYCERA PRODUCT (2.87 LB AE/GAL); MAKE TWO BROADCAST APPLIC OF 1.5 LB AE/A IN 20-50 GPA, 30-DAY INTERVAL, WITH LAST APPLIC 150 DAYS BEFORE HARVEST; 2ND APPLIC SHOULD BE MADE WHEN CANE IS NO MORE THAN 1 M TALL; ALL APPLIC SHOULD INCLUDE THE ADJUVANT DYNE-AMIC AT 0.25% (V/V), UNLESS ABSENCE OF ADJUVANT IS BEING USED TO DIFFERENTIATE MORE THAN ONE TRIAL BY THE SAME FRD
