IS00405-22-CA012022CAAlice AxtellHouston WilsonUniversity of California Riverside IS00405-22 Funded  Yes 02/2023 A SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION OF NAVEL ORANGEWORMS WAS OBSERVED ON ALMONDS PLANTS TREATED WITH THE COMMERCIAL STANDARD INTREPID 2F (METHOXYFENOZIDE) AT 24 FL OZ/A, ENKOUNTER (METHOXYFENOZIDE + ACETAMIPRID) AT 20 FL OZ /A, VERDEPRYN (CYCLANILIPROLE) AT 11 FL OZ/A, VCP-031 (BURKHOLDERIA SSP. STRAIN A396 + BIFENTHRIN) AT 30 FL OZ/A, AND MBI-306 (BURKHOLDERIA SPP. STRAIN A396) AT 20 FL OZ/A. NO REDUCTION WAS OBSERVED ON PLANTS TREATED WITH BASIN FLEX (GS-OMEGA-KAPPA-HXTX-HV1A) AT 8 FL OZ/A TANK MIXED WITH LEPROTEC (BACILLUS THURINGIENSIS STRAIN KURSTAKI) AT 1 PINT/A, BT NOW (BACILLUS THURINGIENSIS STRAIN KURSTAKI) AT 3.5 PINTS/A, AND SPEAR-LEP (GS-OMEGA/KAPPA-HXTX-HV1A) AT 32 FL OZ/A TANK MIXED WITH LEPROTEC AT 16 FL OZ/A. TREATMENTS WERE APPLIED TWICE AS A FOLIAR SPRAY AT AN INTERVAL OF 14-15 DAYS STARTING AT 1% HULL-SPLIT STAGE. PHYTOTOXICITY WAS NOT OBSERVED.

Insecticide treatments tested on almond to control navel orangeworms included tetraniliprole, Altacor eVo (chlorantraniliprole), Bountify (Burkholderia rinojensis strain A396) with RizoSpray Extremo (Vegetable oil methyl esters 70% w/v), Bountify with Silwet ECO (NIS), Shenzi 700 WG (chlorantraniliprole), Enkounter (Methoxyfenozide + Acetamiprid), Shenzi 700 WG followed by Enkounter, a water-only control, and two industry standards: (1) Intrepid 2F (methoxyfenozide) followed by Altacor (chlorantraniliprole) and (2) Brigade WSB (bifenthrin). treatments were applied twice as a foliar spray at an interval of 14-15 days starting at 1% hull-split stage. Enkounter, Altacor eVo and Shenzi 700 WG (Chlorantraniliprole) performed equivalent to one or both industry standards. This is not surprising, since these products are reformulations of existing A.I.s with known efficacy against NOW. In contrast, the highest levels of NOW damage were observed in plots treated with Bountify and tetraniliprole.  phytotoxicity was not observed.
