14080 ETOFENPROX ( LANDIS,MITSUI ) ALMOND ( 14-12 = TREE NUT GROUP ) UNDER EVALUATION

Reduced Risk Status: THIS AI HAS BEEN CLASSIFIED AS RR FOR ONE OR MORE FOOD USES.
IPM Compatibility: Per Requester: Very Good Fit; This request is for a broad spectrum insecticide to be used to treat netting, not the crop itself. The netting would be placed outside the field on stand 50 ft outside and used with attractants as an attract and kill strategy. Request is for an insecticide that can be used and reapplied as needed by applicators:11/25;
Reasons for need: Stink bugs and leaf-footed bugs. These are emerging pests. Current controls lack good efficacy and disrupt management of other pests:11/25;
Requesting State(s): KY:Bessin, Ric* ;
PCR Use Pattern: Spray or dip, 10 foot long, porous fabric netting with etofenprox (Formulation TBD) at a rate of 0.5% v/v and allow it to dry. Hang impregnated netting on 4 ft high T-posts with 3 ft wide pvc arms. Allow fabric to drape onto the ground on both sides of the post and secure it around the post. Hang netting on posts 50 ft away from the crop field edge, and space every 50 ft around the perimeter of the field. Hang a stink bug aggregation pheromone lure from Trece with each post and replace the lure after 40 days. Set up netting posts and keep up netting during active pest season: between May through the end of June or when stink bugs are no longer damaging.

Comments: This was noted as an export commodity. See IS00400 for a similar netting attract and kill project. Green stink bug is a desired target but there is not a pheromone for it presently. Brown marmorated stink bug is a locally important pest which does have a commercial pheromone available. For leaf-footed bug, there is a new pheromone but it may not be commercially available yet. Almond Board of California is supporting this request.
