13754 B ETHOFUMESATE + METAMITRON ( ADAMA ) BEET (GARDEN) ( 01AB = ROOT VEGETABLES SUBGROUPS ) UNDER EVALUATION

Reduced Risk Status:
IPM Compatibility: Per Requester: VGF; Extremely beneficial to table beet weed mgmt by increasing the #s of prod avail. Adds add'l ai to limited toolbox (in NY, only 8 ai's reg'd, & most have very narrow spectrums of control). Like ethofumesate, alone, the pre-mix of metamitron & ethofumesate can be applied pre/post. It can be tank-mixed with S-metolachlor to help with resistance mgmt concerns. Use is compatible with current production practices; this incl the requirement on Torero label for deep plowing following crop harvest (NY soils often fall-plowed because springs can be too wet). Reg'd for use in other countries, so safety & res is not unknown:08/23; VGF: Resistance Mgmt: WSR; Unknown: NER; VGF: Herbicide AIs are limited in beets, spectrum of control of reg prod is also limited. Many prods are highly constrained with respect to use patterns (ie pre/post). The pre-mix can be used both pre/post & would prov growers with greater flex to mix & match prods to suppress weeds, reduce selection pressure & preserve yields:NER
Reasons for need: Weeds; Weeds are a significant threat to table beet production; limited chemical control options exist. Ethofumesate is registered in NY, already; metamitron is registered in a variety of beet crops (sugar, table, fodder) in the UK and NZ and is being used successfully to help with the management of competing vegetation. The pre-mix has been used safely in combination with S-metolachlor in NY in 2023. Company has expressed interest in evaluating this pre-mix in North American beet crops:08/23; OR/highly beneficial to PNW beet prod:08/23; OR-proposed herbicide can provide new ai to rotate modes of action. Metamitron could be useful in table, red fresh market beets, seed production beets, seed production sugar beets, fresh market chard and seed production chard. All of which are important crops in the Willamette Valley, OR:08/24; CA-Add CA to registration:09/24;
Requesting State(s): CA:Ratto, Ron, ; NY:Sosnoskie, L* ; OR:Lightle, D, Becerra-Alvarez, A ;
PCR Use Pattern: Use Terero product. Make up to three broadcast postemergence applications at 44 to 128 fl oz/a to small weeds. Applications should be at least 5 days apart. Do not apply within 32 days of harvest.
