12813 B OXYFLUORFEN ( ADAMA,NUFARM,NUTRICHEM ) PEPPER (CHILI) ( 08-10BC = PEPPER/NON-BELL PEPPER/EGGPLANT SUBGROUPS ) COVERED BY ANOTHER PROJECT

Reduced Risk Status:
IPM Compatibility: PER REQUESTER: GOOD IPM FIT; NEED ADDITIONAL HERBICIDE THAT CAN BE USED TO ADDRESS ESCAPES FROM CULTIVATION; ESCAPES FROM CULTIVATION MATURE AND PRODUCE SEEDS TO MAINTAIN HIGH POPULATION DENSITIES; MORE EFFECTIVE WEED CONTROL TECHNOLOGIES, LIKE OXYFLUORFEN AND FLUMIOXAZIN, WILL REDUCE THE FREQUENCY OF WEED CONTROL FAILURES, WHICH WILL ELIMINATE SEEDBANK DEPOSITS FROM ESCAPED WEEDS AND REDUCE WEED CONTROL REQUIREMENTS IN THE FUTURE; OXYFLUORFEN WARRANTS FURTHER STUDY BECAUSE: (1) THIS HERBICIDE IS LESS EXPENSIVE THAN FLUMIOXAZIN - ANOTHER CANDIDATE HERBICIDE FOR POST-DIRECTED APPLIC IN CHILE PEPPER, AND (2) POST-DIRECTED APPLIC OF THIS HERBICIDE WERE PREVIOUSLY SHOWN TO CONTROL WEEDS, BUT NOT REDUCE CHILE YIELD:08/19; PER 2019 WSR NOMINATION COMMENT: GOOD FIT; COMBINED WITH MECHANICAL (INCLUDING HAND HOEING) AND CULTURAL PRACTICES THIS CHEMICAL WILL PROVIDE ANOTHER TOOL TO CONTROL LATE EMERGING WEEDS; COMBINING MULTIPLE METHODS OF WEED CONTROL IS AN INTEGRATED WEED MANAGEMENT BEST PRACTICE CONSISTENT WITH IPM GOALS
Reasons for need: WEEDS; OXYFLUORFEN IS NEEDED FOR CONTROL OF MID-TO-LATE SEASON WEEDS THAT ESCAPE CULTIVATION; FARMERS CURRENTLY RELY ON HAND HOEING, WHICH IS INCREASINGLY EXPENSIVE AND DIFFICULT TO SECURE
Requesting State(s): NM:Schutte, B ;
PCR Use Pattern: USE GOALTENDER; MAKE 1-2 POST-DIRECTED APPLIC OF 0.12-0.31 LB/A (2 APPLIC OF THE LOW RATE, 1 APPLIC OF A MEDIUM TO HIGH RATE); APPLIC ARE TO ROW MIDDLES AT CROP THINNING OR SHORTLY AFTER CROP THINNING
