12547 B LAMBDA-CYHALOTHRIN ( SYNGEN ) SAFFLOWER ( 20B = SUNFLOWER SUBGROUP ) MFG OBJECTIVE

Reduced Risk Status:
IPM Compatibility: PER REQUESTOR: VERY GOOD IPM FIT; LAMBDA-CYHALOTHRIN WILL BE INCORPORATED INTO AN AREA WIDE IPM PROGRAM THAT MANAGES A HIGHLY DYNAMIC PEST POPULATION ON AN AGRONOMIC CROP LANDSCAPE; HAVING PEST MANAGEMENT TOOLS REGISTERED FOR USE IN SAFFLOWER IS A KEY STRATEGY IN AN AREA WIDE IPM APPROACH; THIS STRATEGY LOWERS THE DEPENDENCE ON ORGANOPHOSPHATE PESTICIDES IN SURROUNDING CROPS AS WELL AS REDUCES THE TOTAL NUMBER OF INSECTICIDE APPLICATIONS IN THE ENTIRE SYSTEM:07/18
Reasons for need: LYGUS HESPERUS, (NYMPH AND ADULT POPULATIONS BEET ARMY WORM, CABBAGE LOOPER, BEET LEAFHOPPER AS WELL AS STINK BUG SPECIES; NEWLY EMERGING PESTS SUCH AS BAGRADA BUG AND BROWN MARMORATED STINK BUG ARE BECOMING MORE COMMON AND LAMBDA-CYHALOTHRIN IS NEEDED TO ASSIST IN THE CONTROL OF THESE PESTS; LYGUS, STINK BUGS, AS WELL AS NEW SPECIES THAT ARE QUICKLY ESTABLISHING THEMSELVES IN CA HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO CAUSE IMMENSE CROP DAMAGE AND GREAT ECONOMIC LOSS; BEING ABLE TO MANAGE THESE PEST SPECIES IN SAFFLOWER WILL POSITIVELY IMPACT THE IPM APPROACH OF THE SURROUNDING CROPS IN THE ENTIRE SYSTEM
Requesting State(s): CA:Howard, B ;
PCR Use Pattern: USE THE WARRIOR PRODUCT; MAKE 4 FOLIAR (AERIAL AND GROUND RIG APPLIED) APPLIC OF 0.015-0.031 LB AI/A, 5-DAY INTERVAL, PHI OF 30 DAYS OR LESS; BY AIR USE 5 GPA AND BY GROUND USE 10 GPA; THIS USE PATTERN IS COVERED BY THE WARRIOR LABEL ON SUNFLOWER, EXCEPT THE 45-DAY PHI VS THE SAFFLOWER REQUESTED 30-DAY PHI

Comments: THIS IS AN EXPORT COMMODITY, BUT NO KEY EXPORT MARKETS NOTED; MFG SUPPORTS, RESIDUE AND E/CS DATA, BUT MAY NOT NEED RESIDUE DATA, AS THERE IS AN EXISTING SUNFLOWER TOLERANCE THAT CAN COVER SAFFLOWER:07/18; WHEN LAMBDA SUBMISSION CAN BE MOVED FORWARD, THIS NEED CAN BE COVERED BY SUNFLOWER; MFG APPROVES IR-4 REQUESTING THE CROP GROUP AND COVER SAFFLOWER USING THE SUNFLOWER USE PATTERN (4 APPLIC AT UP TO 0.03 LB AI/A, 5-DAY INTERVAL, 45-DAY PHI):05/19; EPA (HOLD) CAUTION CHANGED TO EPA HOLD:09/19; Status change from "Covered by Another Project" to Mfg Objective per email from AA:09/23/sb
