BLUEBERRY (HIGHBUSH) (13-07B = BUSHBERRY SUBGROUP) UNDER EVALUATION (06)
Reasons for need: Many winter grasses (Italian ryegrass, annual bluegrass), yellow nutsedge, many annual broadleaf weeds (pigweeds, Conyzas, groundsel). Need to expand options for sedges and grasses. Only Dual Magnum is labeled in this MOA (Group 15), and Devrinol (not widely used):06/25; MI: Nutsedge & to control grasses:06/25; MI: Expands Group 15 options beyond Dual Magnum, and would improve management of sedges and resistant grass populations in highbush blueberries:08/25; FL: Lack of management options for grasses and nutsedge:08/25; NJ: S-metolachlor (Dual Magnum) is only available for use in NJ blueberry through a 24(c) label. Limited options for effective grasses and sedges control. Use of indaziflam increase selection pressure on sedges, increasing the need for an effective management option such as pyroxasulfone:09/25;

Moretti, Marcelo 25-OR-DMP RECD 5958.pdf 08/25 Pyroxasulfone was applied early March at 146, 292, 584, or 1,170 g ai/ha post-directed along both sides of the rows and across lower 2 feet of well-established ‘Elliot’ highbush blueberries. Each pyroxasulfone treatment included 1,150 g ai/ha glufosinate. Treatments also included glufosinate alone at 1,150 g ai/ha, for comparison. No crop injury observed from any treatment through 5 months after treatment (MAT). At 4 MAT, good to excellent control of smartweed, Northern willowherb and fescue seen from all pyroxasulfone treatments, with the exception of smartweed control from the lowest rate. Yield from pyroxasulfone treatments was not different from glufosinate alone.
Moretti, Marcelo 25-OR-DMP RECD 6012.pdf 11/25 Pyroxasulfone post-directed and tank mixed with glufosinate at rates up to 1,170 g ai/ha along and across lower portions of ‘Elliot’ blueberries. Other pre-emergence herbicides tank-mixed with glufosinate also evaluated. Application made early March. No crop injury observed from any treatment through 5 months after application. Yield data collected only from glufosinate + pyroxasulfone at 292, 584, and 1,170 g ai/ha treatments. Pyroxasulfone did not impact berry yield, individual fruit weight, or % green fruit at harvest.
Miranda, Joshua 26-MIP01 RECD 6132.pdf 08/26 In established ‘Bluecrop’ highbush blueberry, post-directed applications of pyroxasulfone (Zidua 85 WG) at 1.67, 3.33, or 5.0 oz/A applied three times (5, 10, and 15 oz/A total) or 2.45 or 5.06 oz/A applied twice (5.01 and 10.12 oz/A total) demonstrated excellent crop safety with 0% visible crop injury and no negative effects on fruit ripening, berry weight, or yield compared to the nontreated control, weed-free control, and Alion (indaziflam) at 3.5 fl oz/A, while achieving late-season grass control of 91–97% (equal to Alion at 97% and superior to nontreated) and red sorrel control of 73–92% (numerically higher than Alion at 53% and superior to nontreated).
