VALENT
SESAME (20A = RAPESEED SUBGROUP) E/CS DATA ON-GOING (03G)
Reasons for need: AMARANTHUS SPP., PARTHENIUM RAGWEED, COMMON COCKLEBUR, OTHER VARIOUS BROADLEAF WEEDS; THERE IS CURRENTLY NOT ANY LABELED HERBICIDES FOR POSTEMERGENCE BROADLEAF WEED CONTROL. WITHOUT ANYTHING LABELED, SESAME GROWERS ARE LOSING YIELDS DUE TO WEED COMPETITION;
Efficacy/Crop Safety (E/CS) Data Required:
E/CS Research Comments: IN THE 2023 PERFORMANCE PROTOCOL: TESTING 3 RATES (0.027, 0.04, 0.08 LB AI/A) OF FLUMICLORAC (RESOURCE) + ADJUVANT, IN AT LEAST 15 GPA, AND COMPARING 1 VS 2 APPLIC; FOR THE SINGLE APPLIC TRMTS, MAKE A POSTEMERGENCE FOLIAR BROADCAST APPLIC WHEN THE MAJORITY OF THE CROP IS AT THE 4 LEAF PAIRS OF SESAME STAGE; FOR THE TWO APPLIC TRMTS, MAKE A POSTEMERGENCE FOLIAR BROADCAST APPLIC WHEN THE MAJORITY OF THE CROP IS AT THE 4 LEAF PAIRS OF SESAME STAGE, FOLLOWED BY A 2ND POSTEMERGENCE FOLIAR BROADCAST APPLIC 45 DAYS LATER; EVALUATE CROP INJURY, WEED CONTROL AND CROP YIELD
Comments: EPA HOLD CAUTION:08/23; at 2022 FUW, mfg supported as Potential, Needs E/CS before Residue:03/24sb; ECS data recd 03/24/DRS;

De La Fuente, Gerald 23-OKP01 Trial Cancelled due to poor weather: 08/23. JPB
Ferguson, Connor 20-TX-DMP RECD 5262.pdf 08/22 FLUMICLORAC (+ CROP OIL CONCENTRATE) APPLIED BROADCAST AT 0.026 LB AI/A PREEMERGENCE (PRE), EARLY POST (EPOST) OR MID-BLOOM STAGE (LPOST). FLUMICLORAC PRE INJURED SESAME 39% 14 DAYS AFTER TREATMENT (DAT) AND 23% 28 DAT. FLUMICLCORAC EPOST CAUSED 13% AND 10% INJURY AT 14 AND 28 DAT, RESPECTIVELY. FLUMICLORAC LPOST CAUSED 14% AND 19% INJURY AT 14 AND 28 DAT, RESPCTIVELY. REGARDLESS OF TIMING, YIELD RANGED FROM 95% TO 102% OF WEED-FREE CHECK.
Ferguson, Connor 21-TX-DMP RECD 5263.pdf 08/22 RESOURCE (+ CROP OIL CONCENTRATE) APPLIED AT 4 FL OZ/A (0.026 LB AI/A) BROADCAST PREEMERGENCE OR BROADCAST POST WHEN CROP HAS 4 LEAF PAIRS. MINIMAL CROP INJURY FROM PRE. SIGNIFICANT INJURY (13%) 14 DAYS AFTER POST APPLICATION BUT NEARLY GONE 28 DAYS AFTER POST.
Dotray, A. 23-TXP05 5656.pdf 12/23 Resource (+ COC) applied once or twice broadcast postemergence at 4, 6 or 12 fl oz/a (0.027, 0.04 or 0.08 lb ai/a) over sesame growing in a clay loam soil. Single applications were applied over 4 leaf-pair sesame, with sequential applications made 45 days after the first. All Resource treatments caused significant crop injury soon after the first spray, ranging from 63 to 81%. Injury decreased to 16-31% just prior to the second application. Twenty-eight days after the second application, injury from the single applications of 4 and 6 oz/a was <10%, while injury from the other Resource treatments ranged from 20 to 28%, similar to the injury just prior to the second application. Due to favorable fall weather, recovery was seen and yield from Resource treatments ranged 90 to 110% of the weed-free.
Grichar, W. James 23-TXP04 5663.pdf 12/23 Resource applied broadcast foliar at 4, 6 or 12 fl oz/a (0.027, 0.04 or 0.08 lb ai/a) over 4 leaf pair sesame growing in a sandy loam soil. Treatments also included these rates applied sequentially with second application 43 days after first. Significant leaf burn (23 to 33%) seen from all rates 4 days after first application (DAA-1). Leaf burn was still evident but non-significant 13 DAA-1 and had disappeared by second application. Moderate to major crop stunting was seen 13 DAA-1 and remained significant (15 to 27%) at time of second application. Leaf burn 14 days after sequential spray was similar to that seen 13 DAA-1. Stunting at harvest from all sequential treatments was significantly different from check but not different from a single application. All Resource treatments reduced yields, ranging from 16 to 52% lower than the nontreated, but was only significantly lower with sequential applications of the highest rate.
De La Fuente, Gerald 23-TXP06 RECD 5692.pdf 02/24 Resource applied broadcast foliar at 4, 6 or 12 fl oz/a (0.027, 0.04 or 0.08 lb ai/a) over 4 leaf pair ‘S2431’ sesame growing in a Knippa clay. Treatments also included these rates applied sequentially with second application 45 days after first. Significant leaf burn (25 to 44%) seen from all rates 7 days after first application (DAA-1). Leaf burn was still significant 15 DAA-1 (11 to 18%) and 30 DAA-1 (8 to 10%) but had nearly disappeared by 55 DAA-1. Regardless of flumiclorac rate or timing(s), injury at 10 and 17 DAA-2 was ≤ 5% and was not significantly different from the weed-free check. The late application timing did not create additional crop injury. Sesame yield was reduced 16 to 33% by flumiclorac treatments, but there was no apparent rate response. Yield reductions are likely due to injury from the first application.
