GINSENG (01AB = ROOT VEGETABLES SUBGROUPS) RESIDUE ON-GOING; E/CS DATA ON-GOING (03M )
Reasons for need: DEBUDDING PLANTS TO REDUCE SEED STAND; DEBUDDING PLANTS IS A COMMON PRACTICE FOR GINSENG GROWERS TO INCREASE ROOT YIELD; CURRENTLY DEBUDDING IS DONE BY HAND AT A HIGH COST PER ACRE; THE DEBUDDING PROCESS ALSO DAMAGES THE FOLIAGE AND LIKELY INCREASES ROOT AND FOLIAR DISEASE PRESSURE
Efficacy/Crop Safety (E/CS) Data Required:
E/CS Research Comments: PER THE 2024 PERFORMANCE PROTOCOL: TESTING ETHEPHON 2SL AT 1.0 AND 2.0 LB AI/A, APPLIED FOLIAR BROADCAST, WITH AND WITHOUT ADJUVANT, 2 APPLIC (AT 25% AND 50% BLOOM) AND A SINGLE APPLIC (ONLY AT 50% BLOOM), IN 50-100 GPA; EVALUATE CROP INJURY, % BERRY HEADS INTACT AT HARVEST AND YIELD; THE 2025 PERFORMANCE PROTOCOL INCLUDES THE SAME PROCEDURES AND EVALUATIONS
Comments: KEY EXPORT MARKETS INCLUDE CHINA, TAIWAN, JAPAN, VIETNAM:08/18; EPA HOLD OF 08/19 CHANGED TO EPA CAUTION:09/19; UPL IS SUPPORTING, ADAMA IS NOT:05/20; EPA HOLD:08/20; UPL REQUESTED THE STATUS BE CHANGED TO RESEARCHABLE, RESIDUE AND E/CS DATA NEEDED: VP, 3/23; YELLOW 08/23; UPL WILL NO LONGER SUPPORT:11/23/sb; ADAMA is now supporting as Researchable, Residue and E/CS Data Need:12/23/sb; Canadian Study# AAFC24-030R:1/24/sb; E/CS ongoing, status will be changed to "Residue ongoing; E/CS ongoing" once residue protocol is signed. 02/24/DRS; Canadian residue protocol signed 3/22/24 & status updated to Residue On-Going; E/CS Data on-Going:03/24/sb

Hausbeck, Dr. Mary K. 09-WI-DMP RECD 4606.pdf ETHREL 2SC AT 100, 200 AND 400 PPM SPRAYED JUNE 17 AND/OR JULY 3 TO 4-YR OLD GINSENG; 200 PPM DECREASED BERRY YIELD WITH NO SIGNIFICANT INJURY.
Hausbeck, Dr. Mary K. 12-WI-DMP RECD 4607.pdf ETHREL 2SC AT 200 PPM SPRAYED JUNE 21, JUNE 29 OR JULY 11 TO 4-YR OLD GINSENG; SIGNIFICANT INJURY AT ALL SPRAY DATES.
Hausbeck, Dr. Mary K. 21-MI-DMP RECD 5604.pdf Two trials conducted. Ethephon 2 applied twice broadcast foliar at 4 pt/100 gallons alone or with crop oil concentrate at 32 oz/100 gallons over ginseng at 25% open buds and 50% open buds. No foliar injury from either treatment. No berry yield reduction from either treatment.
Hausbeck, Dr. Mary K. 24-MIP03 RECD 5895.pdf 03/25 Ethephon 2SL was applied at 4 or 8 pt/a (1 or 2 lb ai/a) over three-year old ginseng. Each rate was applied once at 50% bloom or twice at 25 and 50% bloom. Sequential treatments were also evaluated with or without non-ionic surfactant (NIS). All ethephon treatments significantly reduced seed head weight 30 days after second application (DAT-2). At 33 DAT-2, all ethephon treatments caused significant plant reddening. Reddening from the high rate applied twice, with or without NIS, was 50% or greater.
Hausbeck, Dr. Mary K. 24-MIP02 RECD 5914.pdf 03/25 Ethephon 2SL was applied at 4 or 8 pt/a (1 or 2 lb ai/a) over three-year old ginseng. Each rate was applied once at 50% bloom or twice at 25 and 50% bloom. Sequential treatments were also evaluated with or without non-ionic surfactant (NIS). All ethephon treatments significantly reduced seed head weight 30 days after second application (DAT-2). The high rate of ethephon applied twice, with and without NIS, caused significant defoliation 33 DAT-2. At this time, the high rate of ethephon caused significant plant reddening, regardless of surfactant and number of applications.
